25th Asian Table Tennis Championship: SL Men’s and Women’s Teams leave to Qatar today
Chameera Ginige and Ishara Madurangi - both from Ambalangoda - will lead the Sri Lankan Men’s and Women’s Teams at the 25th Asian Table Tennis Championship scheduled to be worked off from 28 September to 5 October in Doha, Qatar. The Team comprising five Men and four Women will leave for Qatar today (24). The men’s team comprise fifteen-year-old Senura Silva from Ananda College Colombo, the current number one ranked player, along with Ginige from Sri Jayewardenepura University, Milinda Lakshitha (OMBC), Nimesh Ranchagoda (Sri Lanka Navy) and Imantha Udanjaya (Sri Lanka Army).
Skipper Ishara Madurangi of Sri Lanka Ports Authority is the most experienced player in the Women’s Team, which includes promising players like Bimandi Bandara (Hillwood College Kandy), Muthumali Priyadharshani (Sri Lanka Navy) and Thanushi Rodrigo (Sri Lanka Army).
Former Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda paddler Chathura Dushan Egodage will accompany the team as coach while Ravindra Jeewantha has been named as the Trainer and Physiotherapist for this tour. Sri Lanka will participate in the Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles events. In 2019, the Men’s team placed 23rd while the Women’s team finished in 15th place. The championship will be contested by all leading Asian countries. (IR)
