The University of Jaffna was declared out of bounds for students following a meeting held between the Vice Chancellor R. Vigneswaran and the Deans of Faculties.

Therefore, academic activities of the Faculty of Arts, Science and Management have been suspended.

It was also announced that students should vacate hostel premises before 4p.m. today (1).

Meanwhile, the University came to a standstill following a demonstration staged by the students on Monday (30) demanding the release of three Tamil prisoners detained under the PTA who are on a hunger strike for the past 37 days at the Anuradhapura prison. Following the closure of all six faculties, protesters gathered on Ramanathan Street, outside the university, displaying banners in support of the three prisoners.

Despite heavy showers, students commenced the demonstration at 6.30 a.m. and were supported by the academic and the non academic staff of the university.
