An enforcement unit from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), tasked with identifying unregistered hotels and tourist lodgings across the country, would become operational by December, an official source told Ceylon Today.

An official from the SLTDA, who wished to remain anonymous told Ceylon Today that SLTDA had taken this initiative to curb the number of unregistered hotels functioning in the country.

The enforcement unit would be charged with seeking out, identifying and then warning such ventures to register with SLTDA.

"The problem is some of these hotels are unaware that their businesses need to be registered with the SLTDA" the source revealed. He went on to say that initially a warning would be given to register with the SLTDA but if the hotel in concern failed to comply then legal action would be taken. Online facilities to expedite the registration process are now available, the source added.
