It would be beneficial to empower the middle class to purchase solar panels, even if the Government has to print more money, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader Udaya Gammanpila said.
He said the Government could print money and give interest-free loans to purchase and set solar panels as in the end it will be the economy that will benefit.
He also said if money is printed and distributed to the middle class to purchase solar panels for offices, factories, public schools, and hospitals, it will be beneficial.
“Instead of providing innovative solutions, we reject the Government’s attempt to enrich diesel power generation while shifting the burden on the people,” Gammanpila said.
When asked if it Minister of Power and Energy’s statement regarding electricity tariffs was true and that it would put an end to the electricity crisis, Gammanpila answered in the negative.
“The majority of electricity was used by factories, hotels, offices, and middle-class homes. If those who use excess electricity were given interest-free loans to purchase solar power systems with a battery to produce the electricity they require, they will stop getting electricity from the national grid. The crisis will then be solved,” he said.
