New FSL constitution passed with two – thirds majority


At a special annual general meeting held yesterday (22), Football Sri Lanka (FSL) passed a new constitution with more than two thirds of the members voting in favour.

A new clause allocating three votes for a league instead of a single vote was passed with 48 votes in favour with none against. 13 members abstained from voting. All other new clauses were unanimously passed with 61 votes in favour

The special annual general meeting was held at the Pegasus Reef Hotel in Wattala with the participation of two FIFA officials and an official from the Asian Football Federation as observers.

With the passing of the new constitution an election is scheduled to be held on 23 October to elect office bearers, under special permission granted by the Sports Minister, FSL President Jaswar Umar stated.

He further stated a committee comprising two retired High Court judges and an A-Grade SLAS officer have been appointed to oversee the election.
