Regulations made by the Minister of Transport under Section 237 read with Section 126 of the Motor Traffic Act (Chapter 203), published in the Gazette dated 31 March 2022, was approved at the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Transport and Highways.
The approval was received at the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Transport and Highways which met in Parliament under the chairmanship of the Minister of Transport and Highways, Bandula Gunawardena.
These regulations temporarily extend the validity period of driving licences. Accordingly, these regulations are to be submitted for the approval of Parliament, he said.
Furthermore, Gunawardena instructed the officials to give a brief report on all the institutions which are affiliated to the Ministry of Transport and Highways at the next committee meeting.
State Ministers Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Dilum Amunugama, Shantha Bandara, Kanaka Herath, Siripala Gamlath, Geetha Kumarasinghe, and Members of Parliament S.M. Marikkar, Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Upul Mahendra Rajapaksha, Asanka Navaratne, Mohomad Muzammil, U.K. Sumith Udukumbura, Madhura Withanage, Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi, and Yadamini Gunawardena were present at the Committee meeting.
