Pera University suspends three Arts students

The administration of the University of Peradeniya suspended three students of the Faculty of Arts in connection with an assault on a group of second and third year Law Faculty students.

The administration has also decided to conduct lectures online for all Arts Faculty students.

Following the incident, a group of Art Faculty students protested against the decision and the university administration stated that a group of students have not left campus despite being instructed to do so.

Furthermore, a discussion regarding the issue was scheduled to be held yesterday (20) with the university administration and students.

A video clip circulating on social media showed a group of students ragging four other students.

Accordingly, the ‘anti-ragging students’ had visited a canteen called ‘Gemba’ and a group of ‘pro-rag’ students had assaulted them.

Two female students and two male students who were injured in the incident were admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
