Visakha and Ananda crowned champions


Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and Ananda College, Colombo carried away the overall Women’s and Men’s Championships at the three-day Novices Swimming Championships 2022, organised by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union and held at Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex over the weekend.

Defending champions Visakha won the overall Women’s Championship with a total of 118 points with their team of 37 Swimmers, who trained under the guidance of Head Coach Julian Bolling.

Though Visakha was placed 7th overall at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Schools All Island Age Group Novices Aquatic, the Visakhians struck back to pip Bishop’s College (117) by 1 point.

The 48 strong Ananda swimming team made a strong comeback compared to last month’s competition, rising from 13th place to the top to win the overall Men’s Championships, beating S. Thomas’ College by 73 points.

The next major event in the aquatic calendar for the month of September is the National Age Group Artistic Swimming Championships 2022 on 24 and 25 September at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.
