Protests in Maskeliya Plantation Company estates


Several estate workers employed by the Maskeliya Plantation Company launched a protest last morning (19).

They charged that the company had failed to comply with the Government circular that instructs all tea estate firms to pay a daily wage of Rs 1,000.

Workers from estates such as Maskeliya, Brownlow, Laxapana, Murray and Brunswick had protested opposite their respective tea factories demanding they too, be paid the hiked daily wage of Rs 1,000 which has also been officially sanctioned by the Wages Board.

They added that they will continue to stage daily protests opposite their tea factories till demands are met.
