Trinity entered the final of the Under-17 division One inter schools cricket tournament when they recorded a thrilling 4 wicket win over S. Thomas’ Mt. Lavinia in the semi-final played at Surrey grounds Maggona yesterday. Trinity will now meet St. Joseph’s Colombo in the final on 24 September at the same venue.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, S. Thomas’ scored 211 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. Arith Adhikaram (46), Dineth Goonawardena (45), Avinesh Fernando (33), Kavindu Dias (17) and Sadew Soysa (16) helped to build their innings. Opener Arith Adhikarma and Avinesh Fernando were involved in 71 runs stand for the second wicket. Malith Rathnayake, Wathila Udara and Lakvin Abeysinghe claimed 2 wickets each.
Trinity scored 213 runs for 6 wickets in 49.4 overs. Opener Dimantha Mahavithana scored 63 runs in 89 balls with 4 boundaries. Dimantha and Lakvin Abeysinghe (44) were involved in 69 runs stand for the 2nd wicket. Pulisha Thimeth (19), Jayavi Liyanagama (17) and Wathila Udara (15) also made useful contributions.
