Monday, 19 September, has been declared a holiday for State Institutions in view of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The holiday was declared by Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Priyantha Mayadunne.

Mayadunne has written to Ministry Secretaries, Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Secretaries and Divisional Secretariats declaring 19 September a Holiday, noting however that essential services should not be disrupted.

Previously, the Ministry, upon the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, requested that the National flag be flown at half-mast at State Institutions from 9 to 19 September to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
