The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, upon the instructions of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, requested that the National flag be flown at half-mast in State Institutions from 9 to 19 September to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Accordingly, Secretary to the Ministry, Priyantha Mayadunne sent a letter to Ministry Secretaries, Chief Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Secretaries and Divisional Secretariats with instructions to do so at their institutions.

Meanwhile, Wickremesinghe also directed Minister of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government to declare 19 September a day of mourning in view of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral Castle aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.
