Prima has come forward as Co-sponsor to prop up the Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) Under-24 10-a-side Rugby Tournament to be worked off at Police Park on 11 September. Pakistan High Commission is the main sponsor.

8 clubs and 9 development teams will be locking horns in the tournament which is expected to kick off at 8.00 a.m.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, President of WPRFU, Roshan Deen said: “We inaugurated the WPRFU in 1992 and have
7 A Division clubs out of 8. We have many leading schools and our area starts from Gampaha and goes up to Kalutura. These kinds of tournaments will be a good yardstick for clubs to select players for their A Division matches in future. Further, this is a stepping stone for the young players.”

He concluded by saying: This is a brainchild of Rizly Ilyas, President of SLR, who was instrumental in getting the main sponsor. I also wish to thank Prima Group for coming forward as the Co-sponsor.”

Sajith Gunaratne, Deputy General Manager, Prima Group said: “These kinds of tournaments will enhance skills of the players, and more regional events coming up in the Western Province will help the youngsters to get selected for a leading club and go on to represent the country one day. As a nutrition company, we are very happy and proud to be a partner with WPRFU, and it’s only a start.”
