Sri Lanka extend unbeaten run

Defending champions Sri Lanka extended their unbeaten run at the Asian Netball Championship 2022 when they outplayed host Singapore 67-49 in another Round 2 fixture yesterday at OCBC Arena, Singapore.

Sri Lanka and Singapore thrilled the crowd at the OCBC Arena with their enthralling display of speed and athleticism, as the latter came out firing to race to a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Into the second quarter both sides continued to press their opponents, with little separating the two. The high tempo of the game remained throughout the second quarter with Sri Lanka maintaining their healthy lead at the early exchange. Singapore found their momentum dying moments into the second quarter, but they mounted a successful comeback and came close to overtake the Sri Lankans, but the islanders held their nerve to finish top at the half time whistle (36-26).

Taking advantage of some brilliant supply from the goal setter and mid-courter, the Sri Lankan girls produced a perfect shooting display with one goal after another in the third quarter. The five-times champions impressed with their frequent use of the bounce-pass, and the one-handed shooting style of their goal shooter doubled their lead, and the third quarter ended 52-38 in favour of the Lankan lasses.

There was no difference in the fourth quarter as Singapore failed to capitalise on both offensive and defensive aspects. Rebounds on both ends were won by Sri Lanka, who created ample second chances for them to keep up the scoring momentum to wrap up the match with a comfortable 67-49 points win.
