Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Illangasinghe, on 5 September issued notice on officials of Commission to Investigate Allegation of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to appear before him on 3 October, in order to probe an incident regarding the illegal release of a sum of Rs 7.5 million by former Director of CID Rohan Premaratne, related to a trial which had been heard.
The CID making submissions to Court, stated that they had commenced an inquiry regarding the alleged unlawful release of the aforementioned sum by the said former CID Director, via the production of forged documents to suspects, related to a case which had been previously heard connected to misappropriation of money sent via the undiyal system.
The CID further added that they had begun the probe into the incident, following a complaint lodged by the former Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security Jagath Alwis.
They urged Magistrate Illangasinghe, to issue notice on officers of the Bribery Commission, instructing them to be present in Court, as the presence of their sleuths were essential to expedite their probe into the case. The request made by the CID was then granted by Court.
