Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) recently had a cordial meeting with the Tri-forces and Police SC to discuss shortcomings, and reached a common goal to take rugby forward in the country.
SLR President Rizly Illyas stated the Tri-forces and Police SC has contributed not only to rugby, but towards all sports in the country. It is significant to note that out of the 8 ‘A’ Division clubs, 4 are from the Tri-forces and Police SC. SLR are hoping to have a discussion with World Rugby to bring in foreign coaches and trainers to support them.
SLR discussed that the U-24 and U-21 tournaments should be conducted by the Western Province Union so that these players can be drawn to their clubs.
The President stated the meeting ended on a positive note, and the Tri-forces and Police SC would support SLR with all up-coming tournaments.
According to Illyas, Defence Secretary, General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne, was very positive and had stated the facilities of the Tri-forces could be utilised for High Performance Training and for the National 7’s & 15’s squads.
