Urea will be provided to farmers in the first week of November under the loan assistance of the World Bank, the Ministry of Agriculture said.
The Ministry noted that the World Bank is to provide USD 110 million for urea.
Further, steps will be taken to provide fertiliser for paddy cultivation in the Gal Oya area, Ampara in the first week of October, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said.
He also emphasised that the Government has made arrangements to provide insecticides, herbicides and other inputs needed for farming.
Moreover, the release of water for paddy cultivation in the Maha season will start from the Gal Oya Senanayake Samudraya and plans have been made to release water for the start of paddy cultivation till the end of November.
Officials also stated there is sufficient water capacity to successfully cultivate 100 per cent of the paddy fields in the next Maha season.
