Lakshman Cooray, Kirubakaran acquitted

The Gampaha High Court yesterday (1) acquitted two key suspects, who were arrested over the assassination of former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle.

Accordingly, former SP of Gampaha Lakshman Cooray and former LTTE member Selvaraja Kirubakaran, alias Morris, were acquitted by the Court.

Lakshman Cooray was arrested on 12 August 2009. 

The two suspects were accused of murdering 16 people including former Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle on 6 April 2008.

Fernandopulle was killed at the start of a marathon race which was part of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration in Weliweriya.
