SLA’s Avishka and Madumali win men’s and women’s races

Avishka Madonza and Madumali Fernando of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) won the men’s and women’s elite races respectively at the Nestomalt Cycling Challenge 2022 concluded successfully last Sunday (28).

In the men’s elite race (48km), in a tight finish Avishka Madonza clocked 1.06.03 to finish on top, while Sandaruwan Pinto (SLA) and Prabash Madushanka (SL Navy) ended second and third respectively, also clocking 1.06.03.

Meanwhile, in the closely contested elite women’s race, Madumali Fernando (SLA) finished first in the 28km race in 51.29 seconds, followed by second placed Anne Shenali (SL Navy) with the same time of 51.29 seconds, while Sulochana Panchali (SLAF) ended third in 51.30.

Organised by the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the second consecutive year, the event was sponsored by the ‘Good food, Good life’ company’s flagship brand – Nestlé Nestomalt.

The Nestomalt Cycling Challenge held for the first-time last year, helped revive sporting activities in the country. Following its roaring success, the organisers decided upon conducting the event annually.

Seven races took place at Viharamahadevi Park, Colombo, amidst the cheer of enthusiastic spectators.
