Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera has proposed to appoint a Parliamentary Committee to overlook the procurement of fuel and coal.
Speaking in Parliament today (29), the Energy Minister said the committee should be chaired by an opposition Member of Parliament.
“Those in the opposition such as MP Patali Champika Ranawaka have indicated that fuel can be purchased for lower rates and therefore I request an Opposition to head the committee,” he reasoned.
Minister Wijesekera added that he was proposing the establishment of a procurement committee since President Ranil Wickremesinghe has called for the appointment of several new Parliamentary Committees.
