President’s Secretary signs Ramanayake’s release documents


Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake has signed the documents for a conditional Presidential pardon for former MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

Minister Harin Fernando yesterday (25) tweeted that Ramanayake would most likely be released from jail today or on Monday (29).

He said the release will be on the request that was made by him and several others to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Minister Fernando also expressed gratitude to Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe who worked to make it happen.
Ramanayake who is serving time for contempt of court apologized to the court via an affidavit yesterday.

The affidavit noted that Ramanayake apologizes to the court with regard to both contempt of court cases filed against him. It also claimed that he would not repeat his behaviour.
