The bearish run at the Colombo Stock Exchange extended for the third consecutive session on Thursday (25) as the benchmark index slipped on a relatively modest turnover despite continued foreign entry into the Colombo Bourse.
The benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI), which started the day at 9,011.24 points, slipped 2.03 per cent (183.16 points) to close at 8,828.08 points.
The S&P SL20 index representing the top 20 traded shares at the Colombo Stock Exchange, which started at 2,944.50 points, gained 2.66 per cent (78.27 points) to close at 2,866.23 points.
The daily turnover at the Colombo Stock Exchange on Thursday (25) stood at Rs 2.1 billion, lower than Rs 2.5 billion a year ago.
The Colombo Bourse witnessed a foreign inflow worth Rs 50 million as foreigners purchased shares worth Rs 115 million, as against sales worth Rs 65 million.
More than 104 million shares changed hands on Thursday (25) during 28,789 trades that took place.
Shares of more than 249 companies were traded during the day, of which 157 emerged as losers comfortably ahead of 54 winners.
