Ranjan Ramanayake apologises to the court


Former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake, who is serving time for contempt of court, apologised to the court today (25) via an affidavit.

The affidavit stated that Ramanayake apologises with regard to both contempt of court cases filed against him.

It noted that he accepts the statements made by him were wrong, and that it caused disrespect to the Chief Justice and the Legal Fraternity. 

Furthermore, through the affidavit, Ramanayake admits his statements were untrue and that he would withdraw the said comments, and not make such comments in the future.

In 2021, Ranjan Ramanayake was sentenced to a four year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court on charges of contempt of court.
