The Department of Meteorology says that the prevailing showery conditions are expected to enhance in the south-western part of the island (Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts).
Showers will occur today (22) at times in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kurunegala, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfalls above 75 mm can be expected at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
A few places in Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts will also experience rains during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, strong winds about 50 kmph can be expected over the western slopes of the Central hills, Northern and North-Central provinces and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The department requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
