Untold story of cinema

CineMa – Dr. Kapila Suriyaarachchi’s latest cinematic creation – is ready to be screened in Ridma circuits as well as cinemas across Sri Lanka. CineMa is an attempt to make a motion picture out of a story of a cinema buff. It is an unknown story of the well-known cinema, a cinematic depiction of a conscience of a man who has made cinema his life and soul. It undoubtedly will be a novel experience for the viewer as it brings some tragedies behind the cinema industry to the viewer something which no director has dared to do before Dr. Suriyaarachchi.

CineMa centres on Sumal Dharmarathne – a skilled cinematographer and an avid fan of the cinema whose endeavour is to make his dream of creating a movie of his own a reality. Sumal’s father is also a talented cinematographer, a fact which allowed Sumal to be familiarised with the industry from a very young age, being among sets, learning how behind the scenes actually work. While helping his father on sets, young Sumal learnt a great deal about filmmaking and as he gained experience, the seeds of his ambition to make a movie of his own one day were firmly planted in his mind.

Suma’s right hand is a handsome youth named Jaliya who also tirelessly helps Sumal to make his dream come true. The due resides in an urban slum and their landlady is named Rupalatha. In their neighbourhood, Jaliya is perceived as a mysterious character and the neighbours always look at him with squinted eyes. Sagara is a talented and an experienced director in the industry who wholeheartedly dedicates for the betterment of the cinema. Ananda Wijerathne is a veteran actor who now is wheelchair-bound due to an unfortunate accident occurred while filming a movie. Although the accident has effectively ended his acting career Ananda is still passionate about the cinema industry and dedicates his time to lend a helping hand to the up and coming actors to the industry whenever h can while maintaining a cinema museum at his home. Thilini Samarasinghe is a pretty girl hailing from a rural village whose ambition is to become a movie star one day. With this ambition she arrives in the big city and encounters various personalities and gains many unfamiliar experiences, among which is love. To the outer world Vishwakeerthi Amarasooriya is a renowned movie producer, a talented script writer and an award-winning director but in reality he is just a shrewd businessman who is only money-oriented. Using his money and status he robs off the young and inexperienced creators of their intellectual properties.
