Task Force urges to decriminalise homosexuality

The Presidential Task Force for ‘One Country, One Law’ recommended amending the laws that criminalise homosexual relationships.

The Task Force in its final report observed that this could be done through amending the relevant provisions in the Penal Code that criminalise such relationships.

The Task Force however observed that the concept of same-sex marriage should not be given legal validity, while calling for a programme to change the prejudice against the transgender community while ensuring their welfare.

They also recommended a separate identification certificate for transgender individuals, while also stating that the Director General of Health Services could support the circular that has already been published on the ‘Issuing of Gender Recognition Certificate for Transgender Community.’
