Wesley and Joes play for pride

St. Joseph’s and Wesley will battle it out for pride in their last league encounter for 2022 to decide 3rd and 4th place when they lock horns at Havelock Park today (15).

Kick-off is scheduled at 4.15 p.m.

Wesley led by Tharusha Jayaweera had a good season beating Dharmaraja (31/12), Vidyartha (38/7) and Science (38/10), drew against St Peter’s (17/17) and lost to Isipathana (0/10). In the second round they went down to Royal 21/16. The Double Blues have some outstanding players like Muralidaran and Jayawardena in their starting line-up.

Joes are led by Teran Karunanayake. They beat Kingswood 34/3, S. Thomas’ 30/28, Trinity 20/15,
St. Antony’s 35/20, lost to Royal 3/17 and Isipathana 13/16 in the second round. They are coached by Nilfer Ibrahim, who is also the National Men’s Head Coach.

Joes are hit by injury worries and will miss 3 of their senior players, including their full back, Isuru Kanchana. However, a close battle is on the cards as coach Nilfer is confident his substitutes will to rise to the occasion.
