Operations of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery are scheduled to resume from today (15) with the arrival of a crude oil shipment, the Ministry of Power and Energy said.
A cargo carrying 100,000 MT of crude oil arrived in Colombo on 13 August. Oil samples were taken yesterday (14) to check the condition of the shipment.
Also, the second crude oil ship containing 120,000 MT will arrive between 23 and 29 August.
Both of these crude oil shipments are from Russia.
Speaking in Parliament recently, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery has been nonoperational due to lack of energy supply (kerosene), but it will resume operations once a crude oil shipment arrives. Kerosene supply to the industry will be restarting from 19 August when Sapugaskanda starts operations, the Minister added.
