CCCD seeks time for further probe

The report compiled by the Colombo Central Crimes Division (CCCD), pertaining to the sum of Rs 10 million, which was handed over to them by the protesters after recovering it from the President’s House in Fort on 9 July, during the storming of the premises, was submitted to Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage on Friday (12).

The CCCD was represented by its Director, Senior Police Inspector D. S. Wickremasinghe.

He told Magistrate Gamage, that they had conducted a probe pertaining to the incident following an order obtained from Court.

Whilst analysing telephone records it had come to light that SDIG of Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon had contacted the OIC of the Fort Police via telephone.

Wickremasinghe added that previously SDIG Tennakoon, had provided a statement to them regarding the incident and that as per that statement, Tennakoon had accepted that he had phoned the OIC of the Fort Police.

But, Director of the CCCD stated that Tennakoon had noted in his statement to them that he had not proffered any instructions to the Fort Police OIC, regarding the measures that should be taken, concerning the cash which had been recovered from the President’s House.

Afterwards the CCCD stated that further inquiries were continuing related to the case and urged the Court to submit a fresh date for them to file a progress report. Accordingly, proceedings of the trial were fixed for 26 August.
