NCPA to discuss proposal


The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) is to meet next week to discuss the Labour Ministry’s proposal for allowing students aged between 16 and 20 years to engage in part time employment.

NCPA Chairman Udaya Kumarasinghe said the authority has paid special attention to the said proposal and the matter is expected to be discussed at length during the Directors’ meeting next week.

Kumarasinghe said the NCPA has not been provided all the information with related to the proposed amendment so far.

Minister of Labour Manusha Nanayakkara said this week that the ministry has taken measures to amend the Labour law in order for school students aged over 16  years to engage in part time jobs for a period of 20 hours a month.
