An Adjournment Debate will be held in Parliament on 29 August on the massive increase of electricity tariff.
The debate will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on 29 August. The decision was taken at the meeting of Committee on Parliamentary Business held yesterday (10).
The Opposition yesterday (10) called for a debate on the electricity tariff increase.
Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said the people who are suffering due to the economic crisis in the country will not be able to bear the massive tariff increase.
“The tariff has been gone up by 75 per cent. How can people bear this? We would like to see if Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera can reconsider about this situation after the debate,” Kiriella said.
Meanwhile, the debate on the amendment brought to the Appropriation Act will be taken up for four days, from 30 August to 2 September.
