Douglas praises Hakeem


Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda yesterday (9) praised Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader, MP Rauff Hakeem, saying that he was contented with the timely action taken by the latter to develop the Oluvil Harbour to be a fishery harbour when he was the Minister of Ports and Shipping.

Devananda met officials of the Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation and private entities engaging in the development works of Oluvil Fishery Harbour to discuss the progress of the project and the necessity to expedite the development works to provide more facilities to fishermen as to migratory fishing vessels.

It was discussed in detail as to which action should be taken to dredge the sand deposits in the Oluvil Harbour while developing it as a fishery harbour.

The possibilities of using the ‘Sayuru’ dredging machine belonging to the Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation was discussed, Devananda said.

Hakeem was also present at the meeting.

Devananda also suggested that it was important to consult Hakeem, who is experienced in the field, to develop Oluvil Fishery Harbour. 

Ministry Secretary Indu Ratnayake, Ceylon Fishery Harbour Corporation Managing Director Vadivel Sathyanandan, and Manager of Oluvil Fishery Harbour Mudalige attended.
