A collective bowling effort from SLC Blues saw them register a thrilling 32 runs win over SLC Greens in a low scoring game at RPS, Colombo on Monday (8) under lights.

Batting first, Blues posted 122-9 in their allotted 20 overs and then bowled out SLC Greens for 90 runs.

SLC Blues were off to a horrible start losing both openers Danushka Gunathilake (3) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (1) cheaply. After the early set back, skipper Charith Asalanka (23) was joined in the middle with Dhananjaya de Silva (14) and the duo looked to stabilize the innings, but the experienced pair could only put together a 24-run stand for the third wicket.

With Blues reeling at 4-54, Ashen Bandara played a lone hand and went on to score 37 runs off 34 deliveries to revive their innings. Together with Kasun Rajitha the pair put on a 40-run partnership off 41 deliveries to help Blues recover somewhat from the earlier debacle and get to 122.

Jeffrey Vandersay was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets for 12 runs in his 4 overs.

In reply Greens lost the plot from the get go and were bundled out for 90 runs. Pathum Nissanka along with Niroshan Dickwella opened the batting. They were off to a poor start with Dickwella was bowled by Dhananjaya de Silva in the very first over.

Nuwanindu Fernando who came in next, too, didn’t last long, as a peach of a delivery from Dilshan Madushnka caught Nuwannidu (0) plumb in front. With the loss of two quick wickets, Greens never recovered and SLC Blues bowlers kept a tight lid and didn’t give a single opportunity for the Greens batters to free their arms.

Greens’ Skipper Dasun Shanaka tried to dig in and take the match right down to the wire with a fighting knock of 37 off 39, but it was too little too late for them to make a comeback as they were 32 runs short of the target.

Dilshan Madushanka was the architect of their collapse. He produced a brilliant bowling display to shock the opposition. Madushanka ended with figures 2-22 which was clearly the highlight of the day.

Praveen Jayawickrama and Suminda Lakshan followed a similar script to bamboozle the Greens batting line up by sharing two wickets each.

Brief scores:

SLC Blues: 122-9 (20) (Ashen Bandara 37*, Jeffrey Vandersay 3-12)

SLC Greens: 90 all out (18.3) (Dasun Shanaka 37, Dilshan Madushanka 2-22, Praveen Jayawickrama 2-16, Suminda Lakshan 2-22)
