Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardena said that a proposal will be submitted to the Cabinet seeking necessary allocations for the repair of roads and bridges that were damaged by the recent heavy rains. He revealed this on Saturday (8) when he conducted a visit to inspect the roads and bridges in Nawalapitiya damaged by the heavy rains that fell in the last few days.
The Minister who visited to the Hydri Estate observed the Hydri Bridge and the Bohill Bridge built across two culverts that supply water to the Mahaweli River.
Minister Gunewardena inspected several places such as ‘Kalupalama’ located on the Dolosbage Road in Nawalapitiya, ‘Walpalama’ built over the Mahaweli River joining Doruvadeniya and Pathhunupitiya town and ‘“Athwel Palama’ in Medegahavathura built over Korawak Oya.
After witnessing the conditions of roads and bridges, the Minister asked the officials of the Road Development Authority (RDA), to take alternate measures as soon as possible in order to facilitate the transportation of people. (ST)
