PM orders urgent relief for affected


Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena instructed public service officials to carry out urgent relief programmes, for those who are affected due to inclement weather in many parts of the country.

At an emergency meeting held at the Home Ministry on 6 August, to discuss the ways and means of providing relief and shelter to the affected and displaced people, due to floods and landslides, the Prime Minister also stressed the need to take steps to protect the houses and properties of the affected people.

In addition to providing relief and temporary shelters as well as essential requirements, there should be programmes for resettlement and providing permanent houses for those who lost their homes, Prime Minister Gunawardena emphasised.

Secretary to the Prime Minister, Anura Dissanayake, Secretary to Ministry of Public Administration Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Priyantha Mayadunne, senior officials of the Ministry and Disaster Management Center attended the meeting.
