Isipathana to continue winning streak


Dialog Schools Rugby Under-20 League moves forward to the Super Round with the top two teams from each group booking their berth. Royal and Joes (Segment A) along with unbeaten Isipathana and Wesley (Segment B) have advanced to the Super Round.

Unbeaten Isipathana will battle it out with the St. Joseph’s Havelock Park today.

Kick-off is scheduled at 4.15 pm.

Isipathana had a grand season beating Science (18/9), Wesley (10/0), St. Peter’s (29/17), Dharmaraja (26/12) and Vidyartha (25/23).

Meanwhile, Joes beat Kingswood (34/3), S. Thomas’ (30/28), Trinity (20/15), Antonians (30/25) and lost to Royal (3/17).

Isipathana are led by Dahan Nithina and coached by Saliya Kumara, while Joes are led by Teran Karunanayake and coached by Nilfer Ibrahim.

Both coaches who were at the Commonwealth Games are back in action with their teams. Nilfer was in charge of the Men’s outfit while Saliya Kumara looked after the Women’s team.

Meanwhile, the date for the Knock out tournament with the top 8 teams in the league is yet to be decided. The Bradby Shield encounter between Trinity and Royal will take place on 20 August in Colombo (1st Leg) and the 2nd Leg on September 3 in Pallekelle. Due to this both schools’ participation in the knock out is in doubt if the tournament is worked off before 10 September.
