He has observed that countries must refrain from provocations which further escalate the current global tensions, and pointed out that mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries are important foundations for peaceful cooperation and non-confrontation.

Following the meeting, President Wickremesinghe tweeted: “I reiterated Sri Lanka’s firm commitment to the One-China policy, as well as to the UN Charter principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.” This comes in the backdrop of US top official, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan after 25 years in support of Taiwan, including on matters of security and stability, economic growth, and governance.

President Wickremesinghe hinted that countries must refrain from provocations which further escalate the present global tensions. “Mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries are important foundations for peaceful cooperation and non-confrontation,” he said.
