BASL calls for Police probe

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) addressed a letter to IGP C.D. Wickramaratne urging him to investigate the recent spate of shooting incidents and the discovery of dead bodies being washed ashore on beaches.

The letter by BASL President, Saliya Peiris PC seeks a prompt investigation into the said incidents including that of dead bodies that washed ashore in the vicinity of Galle Face.

The BASL observed that such incidents are a threat to the rule of law, adding that thereby prompt investigations should be conducted and action taken against the perpetrators.

On 1 August, a body of an unidentified individual was discovered on Galle Face Beach and this was the third body to have washed ashore in the last week, Police said, while a series of shooting incidents were also reported.
