Youth remanded for sitting on President’s chair


A youth who had taken photos sitting on the President’s chair, in President’s House in Fort, after the protesters occupied the building on 9 July, was arrested by the Police on Tuesday (2).

The 28-year-old was taken into custody in the area of Deraniyagala and was remanded until 10 August, after being produced in Court.

Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) is conducting further investigations.

Meanwhile, another two individuals, aged 35 and 37 years, were arrested for taking part in the protests outside the Temple Trees since April 24, forcibly entering the premises and being part of unlawful public assembly.

The arrest was made by the officers of crimes investigation unit of Colombo South Division.

 The suspects have been identified as residents of the Tudella and Ma-Eliya areas.
