SLPA gets 3 reach stacker cranes


SLPA Chairman, Dr. Prasantha Jayamanna handed over three reach stacker cranes to its Logistics and Operation Divisions. These were needed for operational activities of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). The handing over was parallel to SLPA’s 43rd anniversary.

The cranes had been first purchased  by the SL Army and SLPA ‘s purchase of the three  unused cranes from the Army was made at  approximately Rs 165 million via Treasury approval that would otherwise cost more than Rs 600 million  according to present market values, the Chairman said.

He said proper utilisation of the new machinery purchased at a comparatively low cost is expected to boost SLPA’s operational activities, at a time when there were difficulties to purchase  such machines and equipment.

Vice Chairman SLPA, G.U.K. Algewattege, SLPA  Managing Director, Upul Jayatissa, COO (Services), P. A. R. D. Pathiraja and Chief Engineer (Mechanical Plants), M. S. A. Pathirage participated in the event.
