A fundamental rights (FR) petition was filed before the Supreme Court yesterday (2), by Rev. Fr. Jeewantha Peiris, seeking an order to prevent his arrest in connection with the alleged unlawful assembly in front of the Police Headquarters and damage to public property during the anti-Government protest.
It was stated in the Petition that the imminent arrest without a reasonable ground would violate his Fundamental Rights.
IGP C.D. Wickremaratne, SDIG in charge of Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon, the Attorney General and others were named as respondents to the Petition.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s previously imposed overseas travel bans on six individuals involved in the anti-Government protests including Fr. Jeewantha Peiris.
