Joint operation launched to probe Rathgama shooting


Rathgama Police and the Galle Division Crime Detection Bureau have launched a joint operation to round up the suspects behind the recent shooting incident at Gammaddagoda, Rathgama.

According to Rathgama Police, a few police teams had been dispatched and initial investigations had recovered 25 empty shells from the crime scene.

Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire with a T-56 rifle killing a retired Army Sergeant at Gammaddagoda and critically wounding two others.

Rathgama Police investigations found that the victim had worked in the fisheries industry after retiring from the forces and had also been an owner of fishing boats.

The deceased has been identified as D. Priyantha a 48-year-old, a resident of Dewenigoda area in Rathgama. The post mortem was conducted at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital yesterday (1).
