Anunayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Thera said as it is unlikely that an All-Party Government would be formed, the President must at least strive to establish a ‘Multi-Party Government’ in order to resolve the burning issues faced by the public.
The Thera stated that though there were clear divisions within the House during the secret ballot held to elect the new President, the onus will still be on the present regime to enlist the support of all parties in order to bring about relief to the public.
He urged all political parties represented in Parliament to shed their petty differences and work towards the betterment of the country and its citizens.
The Anunayake Thera made these remarks when PM Dinesh Gunawardene paid a courtesy call on the Chief Prelate, over the weekend, to receive his blessings.
