Thomians sign off with win

S. Thomas’ ended their Schools Under-20 rugby season with a comfortable 36 points (6 tries, 3 conversions) to 8 (1 try, 1 penalty) win over Kingswood in Nittawela yesterday.

At the short breather Thomians led 17/8.

It was a slow game with both teams guilty of being involved in number of handling errors, with the Randles Hills team party to majority of them. Kingswood on their part played better than their earlier games but lacked finish.

Meanwhile, Thomians decided to rest majority of their regular players as head coach Shamly Nawas opted to give his youngsters a chance. They had ample opportunity to go for a big score, but ball handling by the forwards was not so good and it hardly reached the three-quarter line.

Thomians scored through Akira Perera (2), Reshane Dwight, Chariya Kurukulasuriya, Hasitha Ramanayake and Savantha Perera with Yehan Bulathsinhalage converting three of them.

Dharmasena scored Kingswoodians only try with Imanka Ishara putting over a solitary penalty.
