Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation, Mahinda Amaraweera has directed that foreign tourists booking resorts in Sri Lanka be charged in US dollars.
To address the country’s dollar crisis, the minister suggested that this programme be implemented for resorts run by the Ministry of Wildlife. Amaraweera recently opened a resort to accommodate local and foreign tourists visiting Yala National Park.
He said the amount spent for this purpose under the Minister of Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation’s financial provisions is Rs 100 million, and that there are also viewing studio facilities where you can watch the wild animals roaming around at night.
“I also expressed willingness to provide immediate solutions to the fuel supply problem that the safari drivers who provide vehicle facilities at Yala Park are presently experiencing. Following discussions with the Minister of Transport, the minister has further mentioned that steps will be taken to arrange the fuel they require from the Kataragama CEYPETCO Depot,” he said.
