A total of 33 individuals suspected to be involved in illegal fuel collection, storage, and sale were arrested in 31 raids conducted islandwide during the 24-hour period from 6:00 a.m. on 30 July to 6:00 a.m. on 31 July, by the Police.
The suspects are aged 20-50 and are residents of Bandaragama, Aththanagalla, Galgamuwa, Trincomalee, Nalla, and Tangalle.
These raids resulted in the seizure of 1,108.9 litres of petrol, 1,441 litres of diesel, and 9 litres of kerosene, according to Police.
Apart from this, 1,220 raids have been conducted islandwide so far, and 1,145 suspects have been arrested, where 38,030 litres of petrol, 123,946 litres of diesel, and 19,239 litres of petrol have been seized.
Legal action will be taken against the suspects, Police said.
Meanwhile, Police arrested 10 persons who rioted near fuel stations during the 24-hour period on 30-31 July.
Police said legal action will be taken against them.
