Pathum Kerner remanded

Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela on Friday (29) ordered politician and social activist Pathum Kerner, who was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), to be remanded till 4 August, until an identification parade is conducted on that day.

Kerner was taken into custody on 28 July, by the CCD, after he had arrived in to record a statement in connection with the unruly incidents, reported at the entry road to the Parliament near Polduwa Junction on 13 July.

The CCD told the Court, that their probe into the case had revealed that on the day of the alleged incident, the firearms in possession of soldiers had been stolen.

They noted that the actions of the suspect had violated Provisions contained in Sections of Offences Against Public Property Act. President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsakularatne looked into the interests of the suspect during the case.

He informed Magistrate Kekunawela, that his client is a specialist doctor and had also served in the Sri Lanka Army. He noted there was no need for his client to steal the weapons in possession of the soldiers.
