Isipathana prevail in tough battle

Isipathana continued their unbeaten run in the Schools’ League 2022 when they edged out Vidyartha by 25 points (3 tries, 2 conversions, 2 penalties) to 23 (2 tries, 2 conversions, 3 penalties) in their Under-20 rugby encounter at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium on Friday.

At the short breather Vidyartha led 16/13

The home team dominated play in the first half, plus 15 minutes into the second half, comfortably leading 23/13, but then when a stunning victory was within their grasp, indiscretion crept in with their winger Ratnayake going for a high neck tackle on an Isipathana player which resulted in a Red Card.

Reduced to 14 men, Vidyartha lost their momentum and made further errors, which resulted not only in another Yellow Card, but also lost their grip on the game, allowing the Green Shirts to take full advantage to come back into the game with a 2-man advantage.

Isipathana scored their tries through Daham Wickremarachchi, K. Kavishka and Wewala Pandith with full back Botheju converting 2 tries and putting over 2 penalties.

Vidyartha’s tries were scored by Premaratne and Dharmasiri, with Menula Thilakaratne converting their penalties and tries.
