The ticket counters at the Ragama Railway Station were closed yesterday (28) after a Station Master tested positive for Covid-19.
According to the Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters’ Union (SLRSMU), several employees at the station were found to have fever, therefore the station’s ticket counters were closed. According to the union, relief officers were sent to the station later yesterday (28) to cover duties.
SLSMU General Secretary Kasun Chamara said train operations via the station are continuing as usual, but no tickets were issued due to the closure of the counters.
He also requested the general public to adhere to proper health and safety standards.
A notice at the railway station stated that tickets would not be issued, and as a result, passengers had the opportunity to travel on the train free of charge. Passengers reported that while train tickets were not issued from Ragama station, normal train services, including office trains, operated as usual. Higher officials in the Sri Lanka Railways Department were informed about the situation.
