Bandula plotting to destroy private bus service – LPBOA

President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) Gemenu Wijeratne yesterday (28) accused Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardena of plotting to systematically destroy the private bus service by not maintaining equality in fuel distribution.

Speaking to Ceylon Today, Wijeratne claimed that although Gunewardena has taken the decision to provide 50 per cent of fuel from the allocated fuel stock for public transport, it is not equitable when there are 13,000 private buses and 3,000 buses with the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).

“Majority of School, Hospital and office transport services were operated by the private buses. Therefore, to bring the country back to normal they should fix the public transportation,” he added. He further said Gunewardena’s plot is to bring down the private bus service to the level of SLTB, because they do not have enough funds to develop the SLTB to the level of private bus service.  Wijeratne also noted that the private bus associations are discussing about conducting a strike on 1 August and the final decisions on it is yet to be reached.
